Crafted Cabinetry VS. Precision Cabinets

I recently did some undercover research and submitted a quote request for a standard kitchen to Precision Cabinet. This post aims to provide basic data and information about how the two processes work without any biases toward precision cabinets because, honestly, I love precision cabinets and think they make a wonderful product. There is a reason why they have been in business for 20-plus years and dominate the local cabinet market.

The Project

The project we will be comparing side by side is straightforward with minimal design details. It is an L-shape kitchen with an island and a wall of cabinetry, The Island is stained rift-sawn white oak with all other cabinets to be paint grade.

All cabinets are to be frameless with a painted or stained edge banding with maple dovetail drawers.

We requested the following organizational items as well

1 Trash Can pull-out

1 two-shelf lazy Susan

1 utensil pull-out

1 spice rack pull-out

Quote Request Forms

Precision Cabinets has a very simple online form requesting basic information such as name, phone, email, notes on the project, and who the project is for.

Crafted Cabinetry has a more complex form requesting name, phone, email, company name, job name, and job city. Then there are selections for cabinetry type, wood species, and door style, with notes sections and document upload sections for plans, color inspiration photos, appliance and decorative panel selections, and a special/additional notes section.

Response Time

We submitted this quote on August 15th at 7 am using both companies’ online quote request forms.

Precision Cabinets responded with an account manager by email at 10:02 am requesting the name of my company ( I did this under an alias email and company name).

We then responded the next morning with that information and received a response shortly after requesting a phone call.

We hopped on a phone call and discussed the project details, how we heard about them, and if we could email any plans we had over to them. The account manager then told us it would be 2-4 weeks till we get a quote back from one of their designers.

Crafted Cabinetry responded with an email acknowledging the receipt of the submission from a designer at 1:32 pm stating we would have a quote sent to us in 2 business days with a client road map and asking if there were any questions they could answer.

The Quotes

With Precision Cabinets after a week and a half, we began to receive calls from two different people asking us if we received the quotes. We told both parties we did not and told them that we wanted to make sure we wanted frameless cabinets, with paint grade on the perimeter and rift-sawn white oak for the island with maple dovetail drawer boxes.

3 days later we received a call from our designer saying he was confused by what we wanted and that the notes entered did not make sense. We reviewed what we were looking for and received the revised quote on September 1st.

We then reviewed it and the details we requested were still incorrect and we requested a change on September 7th. We then received the correct quote on September 13th.

Crafted Cabinetry responded on the 2nd business day with a missing organizational item. We requested the change and received an email the same day stating it was just a typo and it was included in the price along with the corrected bid showing the organizational item.

When we went back to compare apples to apples we noticed that precision included additional organizational items that we did not request as well as separate countertop and appliance quotes. We then requested another revision from crafted to include the additional items.

The Price:

Now is the moment we all have been waiting for a pricing comparison. This is for the cabinets only with delivery and does not include installation.

Precision cabinets came in at a total of $47,232

Crafted Cabinetry came in at $30,822.65
